The End of The World

The heat goes on forever. Another day around 105 with the heat index akin to living in Phoenix or Death Valley. This is just like last summer. A drought that kills things faster than I can water them. Brown replaces green, and everything dies that is over exposed.

I saw a show on Discovery a couple of weeks ago that was about the sun. I had seemed to remember from science class that the earth moves closer to the sun each year. The prediction was in the future, a billion years or so we would burn up and be gone.

What if….

What if when that time comes we ship thousands of the strongest to the next planet over. The one that is moving into the orbit where earth used to be. And the cost is sickness, maybe radiation sickness or something unknown to man, where things like lizards grow to be huge. But people become semi retarded and almost brain dead.

And what if after another Billion and a half years that is repeated.. And then…

Groundhog Day all over again.

Needless to say as we move close things are going to get hotter. Oceans will dry up, plants will die. And right before the move is made to the other planet we have become a society of underground dwellers. It is the only place one can survive….

OR ----

Take a wad of clay. Make a nice big thick ball and in the but in the middle of it run through small sticks. Some sticks go part of the way through, others all of the way through, and a lot that that are totally covered by the clay because they are laid in it crossways, not stuck into it spear like.

Ok now apply constant pressure to the ball of clay. Take out the sticks one by one. In time the ball has to crumble because the support the sticks gave the mass is gone.

Such is mining. And our resources are not endless.

We are enslaved by aliens.

OR ----

Because of our nasty, wasteful ways, - our want of material goods no matter what the cost, we do not start taking better care of this that is our home. We should have a few hundred years ago.

Then in a few years, they finally discover that it is MSG and all the little things we do to make life better, easier, healthier, richer that is the source of all cancers. We have poisoned ourselves for many years and finally the cancers become stronger, and destroy all of mankind.

People worry about smokers. That keeps the mind of the exhaust of all the cars, smokers and non smokers. That keeps the mind off of all of the refineries spewing toxic smoke into the air. Everything we do to make life easier adverse affects something. The air carries so many poisons, too many poisons.

The death of the earth is slow and unstoppable. The toxins carried by the air invade vegetation which infects anything that eats it. We are the top of the food chain and in the end - we are the top of the food chain, and we die as we eat each others rotting flesh to try to live for one more day.

The last few sit there and wonder where the wisdom of their forefathers was?

They would much rather have life without - than not have life…

Point is….. We all have to take responsibility. We all have to work to make this a better world..

I , personally, fear it might be too late…..
