I was talking with my neighbor down the street when the mail man passed today. He pulled into my driveway as he usually does.
My neighbor commented that I must have a package..
I told him no, that since I order so much online and through the mail I am inundated with JUNK MAIL. I usually have a stack so high it does not fit into my mail box.
You know what I started to do?, he asked.
He then went onto tell me that he looks through the junk searching for postage paid return envelopes. He then seals the empty envelope and writes on the back that he is glad to return this envelope to them.
I laughed.
It is pretty ingenious. They have to pay the postage. Every envelope mailed back costs them. It is worth our time to process the junk, so in a way it can be my wage for unsolicited mail.
I took it one step further tonight.
I used my printer and return address labels and wrote
"Here is your envelope back. Maybe next time you will not kill a tree to bother me. In any event remove me from your mailing list. "
And put my name and address so that they would know who to remove.
Maybe it is rude, maybe wasteful, but in the end I think they will get the message.
Now if everyone did this, think of the trees that would be spared. I mean I cannot tell you how sick I am of catalogs of womens clothes and shoes and things I will never use.
Besides with the womens clothes and shoes - None of them fit!
