An Instant Lost

I always have my camera with me when I go outside. I do this just in case a bird comes a long that I have never seen before. It has been such a long time that this has occurred I never expect it to happen when it does..

This evening I had to ready the yard for the lawn people tomorrow so I went out to move hoses, clean up poop, and unlock the gate. After that was done I sat down to smoke a cigarette and all of a sudden this beautiful yellow and black bird appeared.

I did not have my camera with me.

The bird stayed for a second and saw me and fled. I rushed in, got my camera and sat outside until total darkness hoping. He never came back. Maybe tomorrow. This certainly is not one of the usual birds from around here. It was not a gold finch or an oriole. It had a yellow head, a black collar, black wings and the rest was a brilliant yellow.

Drats

I have looked at thousands of pictures trying to find something that resembled what I saw. No luck in identifying him even. It is maddening.

That bird like that second is gone from my life now. Probably I will never see it again.

I was not ready for life when it had a gift for me.
